We all receive lots of emails that start with Congratulations! Lately, my mailbox is full of the good news that my credit score has really improved or that I can buy a brand new car at half price – all because I am special.
But then I received a note that proclaimed “Congratulations! You have one of the top 1% most viewed LinkedIn profiles for 2012.” Wow. Now what? Should I be proud or embarrassed? Too bad I don’t receive a dollar for everyone who viewed the profile, I thought and was ready to move along.
Then, the mailbox started filling in with people boasting about their status on LinkedIn. What? There are many things to be proud of in life, I am not sure LinkedIn status is one of them. It might mean you need to get a life, offline.
A wise marketing guy once said, never believe your own PR. When it comes to online egos, don’t take yourself too seriously.
